What Does My Business Get Out of Guest Blogging if I Don't Own a Blog?

Let me first start by asking you the following question: Is your business on Facebook or Twitter?

If you answered "no" read the article "Why Should My Small Business Be On Facebook?". The same reasoning behind the Facebook article applies to Twitter as well. If you want to learn more about Twitter you can visit Jessica Northey's web site Finger Candy Media, she is the Twitter expert.

For those of you who are already on Facebook and Twitter, have you heard of the term microblogging? For those of you who have heard and know what the terms means, great. For those of you who haven't microblogging allows people to publish short messages to each other. An example of a microblog (a place for microblogging) is Twitter. You can also see microblogging in action on sites which are not necessarily microblogs such as Facebook in the form of the status update.

So you don't own a blog, but you own a page on a microblog or another place where you have the power to microblog (communicate messages to people) and you still don't get how guest blogging will help you get more customers? That is ok because I am here to tell you. Blogging is about writing articles that help people solve their problems based on the writer's (blogger's) own personal experience and research.

Blog owners work hard to network with each other and to connect with readers, so if you write an article for a blog and place a link to your Facebook or Twitter page in the article you will in turn get listeners (which cost the blog owner hard work to get) that will come to your Facebook or Twitter page because your article is somehow related to the customer's problem and how your business will solve this problem.

The key to getting customers is to find blogs and to write about topics that relate to your business. If you sell health products you want to write articles for blogs that are health related. You may come across blogs that discuss different topics, in that case find the topics that relate to your business.

Now let's look at the complete opposite scenario: Maybe the blog doesn't have many listeners but you do on your Facebook or Twitter page. You don't have a blog where you can communicate the amount of information you want. The blog owner is giving you the space and there is nothing wrong with you bringing them the listeners. Guest blogging is all about benefits for everyone involved.

If you are not sure how to get started guest blogging come like our Gig Logo Facebook page, where you will receive updates about blogs looking for guest bloggers and guest bloggers looking for blogs. If you are a blog owner you can post announcements on our wall about guest blogging opportunities and if you want to be a guest blogger you can post announcements about wanting to guest blog. You can also visit our main site Gig Logo and submit guest posts any time you want.

Happy blogging!

What Does Original Content Mean to Google?

There is a lot of confusion when it comes to the term "original content", the reason being that people interpret things differently and that is just life. If you are reading this you are interested in original content and what it means in the Google world. It is simple, original content in the Google world means that the content is one of a kind. Here is a link to Google's guidelines when it comes to little or no original content Google Web Master Central.

The terms original and little content are related but they mean different things, in this post we are just talking about the meaning of original content. I have heard some people say that original means that they wrote the content themselves and that the content is full of valuable information, which makes sense and is part of the definition of original content but missing what is important to a search engine, multiple and non repeating results. Put yourself in the search engine's shoes and think about what you want your users' experience to be, think about when you search and get 5 different web sites with the same article and how it makes you feel. I like to read different articles on the same subject because it works as a confirmation for me that the information is true. I read each writer's point of view and weight out the pros and cons before coming to a decision of which view I will agree with and support. Google wants to be known for quality content and wants to give users the results they seek and they know through user feedback that most users do not appreciate getting the same article on multiple web sites (especially if that article is of low quality or does not offer the solution they seek).

I know what you are thinking, my article is not low quality and it is full of references that give it credibility. I know that you worked hard but how about people who do not know you? The millions of people performing searches each day? It all comes back to trust, and as you know trust doesn't come automatic, it is something you need to build. Don't take it personal, just remember if you want to rank high on Google do it the right way and follow the Google rules and know their language.

A word about the Panda update: I have read that the penalty goes to the site which has the copy of the original article and not the site that has the original article.

Google Panda Algorithm Calls For a Site Audit

You guys have probably heard of the new Google Panda algorithm by now, if you haven't here is the what the update means to you. Basically Google is taking action against duplicate content on the web. They have expressed their dislike of duplicate content for some time, but now they mean business. Sites with high PR's who have not complied have been penalized and their PR has dropped drastically.

I know there are many sites and blogs that say PR is not important, but let me ask you this: Do you care about your site appearing in Google and hopefully closer to the first page? I do and in this case PR is important. Yes there are other factors and methods to get web traffic, but we are talking about Google traffic here. This post is not meant for those bloggers out there who are the sole authors of their blogs writing only unique content. This post is meant for those who receive guest posts or those who have borrowed content from article marketing sites.

Everybody makes mistakes, we are human we are allowed mistakes. This is why I am encouraging you to conduct a site audit. I receive guest posts on Gig Logo and I am going to conduct a site audit in which I will test content to see if it appears anywhere else on the web. If it does it is getting removed from Gig Logo. One of the rules on the Gig Logo site is no duplicate content; the rule has been in place from the start. Sometimes articles slip through the cracks and this is why I am conducting a site audit. I encourage all blogs that receive guest posts and those who have borrowed content from article marketing sites to do the same if they are concerned with how their site appears on Google.

Happy blogging everyone!

What is Facebook Police aka FB Police?

Here at Gig Logo we love to have fun. We love going on Facebook and exploring it's many features and socializing with people of course. With socializing you get to learn a lot of things about people and today we are posting about something that is affecting Facebookers everywhere. Have you ever had a relative or friend who is always telling you what you should or shouldn't post on your Facebook profile? I guess they mean well, right?

Facebook police aka FB police: People who go on your or other people's Facebook profiles to monitor behavior and make sure they post their dissaproving opinion on status updates, pictures, notes, and any other thing you upload to Facebook.

There is no disrespect meant to anyone with this post. This post is actually meant to honor those members of the FB police, who have dedicated their lives to their profession. We created a very loving FB page just for those brave heroes out there and the criminals they apprehend: http://www.facebook.com/pages/What-are-you-FB-Police/180664435312127

Live, blog and socialize : )

It's Gig Logo not Gigolo, So What Does The Name Mean?

When you come up with a business name it can make or break your business. Knowing this information I came up with the name Gig Logo. At the time of creating the name it didn't cross my mind that the url to the business website would show up as www.giglogo.com, hence the confusion with gigolo. I was busy trying to come up with a clever and fun name that described the service and was not thinking about the name in the url.

The first time a person said to me "Hey Karla, how is your web site gigolo doing?", I must confess I went into panic mode. You must understand I was a new business owner and wanted everything perfect. Plus I had just gone through labor law training with sexual harassment being a big topic. The second and third times, I was hoping it wouldn't happen but was expecting it. After a while I just started joking about it, I found the humor to my blunder.

My new answer to "How is gigolo doing?" is simply "We are doing good and we are looking for new dancers are you interested?" or something similar. After the initial shock, I say "I am kidding it's not gigolo, it's Gig Logo". Now people come up to me and say "How is your website that sounds like gigolo, Gig Logo, how is Gig Logo?". It works for me.

So why the name Gig Logo?

Gig
Well I wanted it to be a place where people could talk about their business and expertise and enlighten consumers. One of the definitions for gig is a job. I intended Gig Logo to be a place where people can talk about their jobs and not just the everyday things that they do, but how their work helps consumers.
Example: Maybe you sell insurance, and policy A is good for homeowners who live in flood areas. This is your area of expertise and you can write an article on Gig Logo about how to stay safe living in a flood area and adding a link to your own site where people can buy policy A.

Logo
The Logo in Gig Logo represents your brand, your logo, you. Gig Logo is a place where you can represent you and again not by being an annoying sales man but by becoming a trusted source of information. I think I say this in almost every article but trust is what makes a sale, would you buy a product from a company or person you didn't trust? A person who you think is just trying to get your money and doesn't care if the product helps you or not? I wouldn't and you shouldn't have to either.

That is the story behind the name. Just remember it's Gig Logo not gigolo ;)
